Project Scope ::

The first outdoor, cold weather Superbowl kicked off on Sunday, February 2nd, 2014. New York City’s Mayor Michael Bloomberg, The Superbowl Host Committee, and GMC announced plans to transform Times Square into Superbowl Boulevard, a football-themed extravaganza that has taken over Times Square the week before the biggest football game of the year. As millions of people converged on Times Square, they were greeted by an iconic illuminated sculpture of XLVIII fabricated by Ace Sign Company of Springfield, IL.

The 9 foot tall by 38 foot wide LED illuminated acrylic numerals were fabricated using manufacturing techniques developed by Ace Sign Company to meet the high standards set by the National Football League. The ribbed letter design features gold acrylic faces with LED lighting effects that can be synchronized to music. Attendees are encouraged to snap commemorative photos in front of the numerals, which are located on Broadway between 42nd and 43rd Streets. Ace Sign Co. was selected by the events designer and coordinator, Production Resource Group of New York, to fabricate the iconic numerals.

“Our entire team is excited about this project. It’s been a three-month long process, and everyone here has played a significant role,” says Ace Sign Co.’s Cory Boatman, project manager. “And it all started with a phone call from an intern with a simple question – “could Ace Sign Co. fabricate letters for placement in New York City?” Boatman’s positive reply led to a series of purposely-vague emails designed to keep the nature of the project under wraps. Boatman is certain that quality and workmanship were key factors in the selection process. We’re a family-owned company, and we’ve used everything learned by all four generations to provide New York City and the NFL with the best quality product. Our letters will be the first thing people see when they come to Times Square for the Superbowl Boulevard experience. “We’re confident no one will be disappointed.” A definite football fan, Boatman grinned when asked if he ever dreamed the company would be involved in a Superbowl project. “Heck, I thought I would play in the Superbowl when I was a kid! This may be the closest he gets.”

Established in 1940, Ace Sign Co. is a family owned and operated custom sign and graphics company located at 2540 S. 1st Street in Springfield, Illinois, with 54 employees.
